Our season will close on May 31st and June 1st (Rain Date June 2) as we present our annual event Ballet Under the Stars at the Zilker Hillside Theater. This season’s Ballet Under the Stars will feature the music of Ludwig Minkus. He is most well-known for his ballets Don Quixote and La Bayadère that have defined the art form of classical ballet through their strong and dynamic characters. Enjoy an evening with our artists as they exhibit beautiful artistry and unmatchable virtuosity. We will also be joined by guest artists from Ballet Austin and Ballet San Antonio. Additionally, the audience will also enjoy original debut works created by our artists. Join us just before sunset on May 31 and June 1 at the Zilker Hillside Theater. Beginning just before sundown, this Austin tradition is fun for the whole family and a great way to kick off your summer. Whether it's your first time at a dance performance or you are a seasoned patron of the arts, you will be amazed at the talent and creativity of our artists. During intermission the bucket is passed for donations and any amount is graciously accepted. Concessions are available.
Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble is a professional dance company comprised of dancers throughout the Austin and greater Austin area. This 25 year Austin family tradition is Free to the public. The audience will enjoy orginal works choreagraphed by resident and guest artists. Our repertoire will include ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary. This free performance draws a large crowd and has introduced thousands to the “art of dance” throughout the years. AMDE's purpose is to provide high quality dance productions to Austin residents and visitors. This goal requires many financial factors such as space rental, backdrops, lighting, and costumes. AMDE is also in great need of new marley flooring. The current marley flooring that the dancers perform on is 17 years old. AMDE believes that it is vital to preserve the “art of dance” to the public, unfortunately we currently have a gap in our budget that we hope Austin Community can assist us with.
We are proud to be able to continue and provide the only FREE ballet-based dance production in Austin. Through masterful instruction, challenging choreography, and high caliber performance experiences, AMDE is working to change the shape of dance one dancer at a time. Our efforts must continue to provide the highest quality performance experiences so that these artists have futures impacting the world of dance. We desire for our artists to not just enjoy long careers in the art they love, but to be the life force that carries it forward for future generations. We impress upon our artists their responsibility in continuing this legacy. Our company exists because of leaders that came before us and we are working to make it a permanent historic dance landmark in the Austin area.
We believe the power of art is through live performances for diverse audiences. It stimulates the senses, inspires imagination, and provokes thought and emotion. AMDE strives to create productions that serve all communities, reinforcing the artistic and cultural opportunities and experiences of the community. It is our hope that Austin Community will join us in preserving the “art of dance” by assisting in funding Ballet Under the Stars.
