| Metamorphosis Dance Academy is the proud home of the Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble. Founded by Melanie Kregel and Erica Hiebner, MDE is a contemporary dance company currently under the artistic direction of Erin Mayo. They enjoyed their first season in 2003-2004, which culminated in their debut production, “Memoirs”. In March 2005, MDE performed its second annual production entitled "Still...Moving", which paid tribute to Austin's uniqueness. Continuing the tradition of providing excellent entertainment and innovative choreography, they presented "Who's Betty?" in March 2006, which honored women throughout the ages. |
AMDE dancers believe strongly in sharing their talents with young people. They not only teach for the academy, but also volunteer their time to teach special master classes at Round Rock area high schools and elementary schools throughout the Austin metropolitan area. If you are interested in having AMDE come to your school for a lecture demonstration or special class, please contact the office at (512) 246-6047. AMDE is always looking for volunteers. | This year the company is slated to merge with Austin Dance Ensemble directed by Arletta Howard Logan. They will become the new Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble. This season the company will present 4 major productions. In November, Ms. Logan will direct an AMDE and AMDE II combined production of "A Fairy Tale Evening" including Midsummer's Night Dream and Firebird. AMDE II will dazzle us with their exceptional talent this coming January with Ms. Kregel's production, " The Gallery" which will bring to life masterpieces by Picasso, Kandinsky, and Dali, to name a few. In March, the company will present its landmark multi-media dance production, "The Hotel". In collaboration with Adam Schlender and Mercenary Mediums, this show is a look at a scorned lover and her plot for vengeance. With seduction, humor, set ups, and murder, what more could one ask for? Thursday, March 1 8:00pm Friday, March 2 8:00pm Saturday, March 3 8:00pm Sunday, March 4 2:00pm Tickets are available through Austix at www.austix.com (click on Texas Performs) or call 474-8497. Also, a limited number of tickets will be available 30 minutes prior to curtain at the door. Adults $12 and students, seniors, and children $10. Performances held at the George W. Carver Center's Boyd Vance Theater; 1165 Angelina St. Their final production of the season will be Ms. Logan's annual "Ballet Under the Stars", a free performance at the Zilker Hillside Theatre. |
